Doris is one of my favourite zines ever. I’m re-reading the anthology book after it appeared on a Powerpoint at LIANZA (displayed during Better looking than a blog, presented by the Wellington City zine librarians).

Anyway, this is a little bit I liked from a piece Cindy wrote about community in the big city:

NY. Isn’t it supposed to be alienating? We sit there and everyone that walks by knows them. Everyone’s in a hurry, there’s a sense of urgency, but they stop for a second and say “remind me later that I want to ask you about seed saving.” Or they stop and say “Community gardens bike ride, one hour.” Or they don’t stop, just wave.

Living history

Gala videos the scene on the streets of NY the night Obama won. Dancing, cheering, random high-fiving of strangers & a crowd rendition of the Star Spangled Banner that actually made me cry, though I’m probably sappier than most. Gala’s related blog post.
