Did I mention NY has vegan cupcakes?

Babycakes is all vegan all the time, in fact caters to all kinds of dietary peculiarities, and is at 248 Broome Street between Orchard & Ludlow on the Lower East Side. NY vegans love them. You can buy an icing shot for $1 (oh America, you are crazy).

See also cute video footage, and the following gratuitous cupcake pictures:

NY also has conceptual art featuring vegan cupcakes, though it’s not necessarily appreciated by the locals.

Other likely-looking sources for vegan cupcakes while travelling: Boneshakers in Brooklyn, ‘sNice in the West Village or Park Slope, Brooklyn, Penny Licks in Brooklyn, Sacred Chow in Greenwich Village. Further reference material: The Urban Housewife’s NYC vegan dessert reviews: part one & two.

Auckland has vegan cupcakes too, it’s true, but it’s important to know I will be fed in foreign lands.

Not in NYC itself, but nearby in upstate New York, Lagusta Yearwood lives, cooks vegetarian delivery meals, blogs & makes vegan chocolate truffles that sound and look amazing (as above). She’s just launched Bluestocking Bonbons, little boxes of ethically-solid artisan chocolates, named after feminist superheros.

Must find some way to try while in NY: Raspberries de Pizan (actually, they all sound amazing).

OK, so she will be looking for the Vegan. But thereafter, she’s not restricted. Some of us are vegetarian. Others are meat inclined (well, one is). Vegan Walking Tour

Herbivore #14, the travel issue, includes a vegan walking tour of NYC by Rich Bebenroth, full of commentary and recommendations for making the most of a single vegan day in New York. The instructions included going with a friend and ordering less than one thing at each eating establishment so as to sample the most food. The following places (and other highlights that don’t have websites; buy the magazine) are all within a square mile section of the vegan-est city on earth:

I may need to start dieting tomorrow to save space for all the desserts.

Start spreading the news…

I’m vegan today! And this is sure to be the first of many excited posts about potential vegan-friendly shopping and eating experiences in the Big Apple.

so: Moo Shoes is an all-vegan shoe shop, advertising fashion with compassion. Now, in recent travels to Melbourne I visited a vegan shoe shop. This was all very well – everything looked well made, the ethics were good, but the shoes themselves were not so attractive.

If Moo Shoes’ site is anything to go by, styles are wide-ranging and often cute! Check out: Novacas heels and more heels and slightly more sensible heels and everything else they make, red boots from Vegetarian Shoes, Queenbee bags.

Also the Vegan Guide to NYC! I can see great shopping in my future.
