Doris is one of my favourite zines ever. I’m re-reading the anthology book after it appeared on a Powerpoint at LIANZA (displayed during Better looking than a blog, presented by the Wellington City zine librarians).

Anyway, this is a little bit I liked from a piece Cindy wrote about community in the big city:

NY. Isn’t it supposed to be alienating? We sit there and everyone that walks by knows them. Everyone’s in a hurry, there’s a sense of urgency, but they stop for a second and say “remind me later that I want to ask you about seed saving.” Or they stop and say “Community gardens bike ride, one hour.” Or they don’t stop, just wave.

Barnard College Zine Library is on Broadway, and can be visited by appointment by people who otherwise don’t have access privileges to the library. I’m Flickr buddies with them, & they know Johanna, who knows Queens – a visit is necessary I think.

The best part is, I just realised that they have a couple of my zines in their rare book collection! My LC heading is Women engineers –New Zealand. (seems I can’t link directly to myself, but you can search for my name in their OPAC). Probably about time I wrote another zine in which I’m an Accessible Information Professional–New Zealand – it’s been a while.

Something I need to excavate from my pile of zines is Hope #19, which contains the story of the Guerrilla Subway Dance Project, a performance art project Elissa (not still in Brooklyn) organised involving synchronised dance routines on NYC subway trains. I’m not sure we need to follow the footsteps exactly, but probably good to start researching the public transport options (and opportunities for turning life into a musical).
